Predictive scenarios drawn up by MeteoSwiss and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich reckon the rise of temperature could be between 0.7 and 3.3°C compared with 1981-2010 figures.

Since 1970, Switzerland has not seen a month of December where the average temperature dipped below -5°C. In Davos, the alpine ski station sitting at 1,560 m above sea level – the number of icy days has dropped by almost 20% over the past 40 years.

Sion, the capital of Valais, is the Swiss city most affected by warming. In 20 years, the average temperature has risen by a degree, while the annual number of days with temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius has risen from 56 in the period between 1960-1980 to 76 today.

Planting vegetation on an asphalt area can lead to a temperature drop of 5 degrees Celsius, says Martine Rebetez, a climate researcher at the University of Lausanne. In Geneva, the goal is to increase the area of tree-covered ground from 21% to 30% by 2050.
The Global Initiative
Today’s boards are navigating increasingly unpredictable environments as markets, regulation, supply chains and investment strategies rapidly evolve. As expectations on boards intensify, future-ready directors recognise that the real differentiator is not just risk avoidance, but the ability to identify and act on the opportunities associated with the climate transition.
Supporting a network of 34 Chapters spanning 70 countries and reaching more than 100,000 board directors worldwide, Chapter Zero Alliance equips directors with the expertise, tools and confidence to lead on climate and nature in the boardroom.
Convening leaders and sharing intelligence across international markets, the Alliance collaborates with global organisations and
academic partners to equip corporate boards with the practical expertise they need to embed credible climate governance practices.
In partnership with the World Economic Forum, Chapter Zero Alliance’s work is informed by the Guiding Principles for Climate & Nature Governance, a practical framework that helps boards implement climate strategies that strengthen long-term organizational resilience and competitive advantage, and advance a climate-resilient, nature-positive economy.
The Network
We help non-executive directors through discussion, sharing and concrete action in collaboration with a growing number of Chapters around the world, which are united under the Chapter Zero Alliance .
Chapter Zero Switzerland was established in 2020 by a group of directors and it is hosted by the Board Foundation.
Chapter Zero Alliance is a not-for-profit organisation supporting a global network of Chapters to advance climate and nature governance in the boardroom and create long-term strategic value.
Membership of Chapter Zero is open to all board directors of organisations with more than 10 employees.
The membership is free of charge and will give members access to a wealth of information and events to inform and inspire themselves as well as giving them the opportunity to connect with like-minded directors.
